Five programs. One job. There had to be a better way.
Between running multiple businesses and managing my personal finances, I found myself using five different programs just to get everything done. It was cumbersome, and at times frustrating. Some days it took longer to open programs and log into them than it did to do the actual work.
I did that for years. Then one day I stopped and said: there has to be a better way. There has to be something out there that handles every part of this. I looked, I searched, and I looked some more, and I didn't find it. The answer that kept coming back was to keep using the same programs I'd been using all along. I wasn't happy with that.
So, drawing on my background in software development and my experience in the financial industry, I sat down and mapped out everything I wanted the program to do, and I started building it. I built it one module at a time, to make sure nothing was forgotten and that every part worked exactly the way it needed to. Before I knew it, I had a full-scale personal and business financial platform.
When I finished it in early 2026, I released it privately to friends and colleagues to test drive and tell me whether it really was what I thought it was. The response was incredible, and it matched exactly what I'd been thinking: nothing else offered this. You didn't need several different programs or subscriptions to get one job done. Ledger handled every part of it, for business and personal finances alike.
That's how Ledger came to be.
